This month marks two milestones for me: 18 months of business ownership and 25 years since I first stepped into the world of accounting. As I reflect on these chapters, I’m reminded that my journey has never been a solo one. It has been shaped—deeply—by the people who walked alongside me, challenged me, and believed in me long before I believed in myself.

Super is a key part of Australia’s retirement system and Payday super is set to reshape the way Australian businesses manage their payroll and superannuation obligations. Moving away from the current quarterly system, employers will soon be required to pay super at the same time as wages—tightening compliance requirements and bringing new implications for cash flow, payroll processes, and administration. While the change aims to improve outcomes for employees by ensuring their super is paid more frequently and on time, it also means business owners need to be proactive in reviewing their systems, budgeting practices, and reporting processes. Understanding how payday super works and preparing early will be key to staying compliant and avoiding unnecessary disruptions to your pharmacy.

APP is done and dusted for another year and if you attended you would have heard the same message repeated across many sessions.

Community pharmacy must move beyond the script.

Pharmacists are stepping further into clinical care, preventative health and broader primary healthcare services. It is an exciting direction for the profession and one that clearly resonated throughout the conference.

But as we discussed during our post APP tea meeting at Peak Strategies, “beyond the script” is the vision for the profession. It is not the strategy.

The strategy is what pharmacy owners do next.

Priya is so excited to be attending APP next week and reconnecting with so many familiar faces across the industry. With APP just around the corner, it also felt like the perfect time to share one of the questions we’re most often asked.

As we reflect on what has happened in the last couple of years – namely Full Scope of Practice, we thought it would be a great opportunity to do a refresher for those pharmacists currently or thinking about undertaking the courses offered and do a quick recap of the tax deductibility of the fees and associated costs.
