Pharmacy- The art of reflection.

I have been working alongside John at Peak Strategies for three months now.  In the time I have been exposed to the world of pharmacy only slightly.  However, I am beginning to understand the complex and current issues that pharmacy owners are facing. High rents, Chemist Warehouse, the review and the list goes on. Also we are heading up to a long weekend and I thought I would share some advice on the concept of reflection.

The art of reflection…….

As a communications specialist reflection is a part of my day to day routine. Therefore if I don’t reflect and review what I am doing (both right and wrong) I won’t grow. Reflecting on what has been learned makes experiences more productive.

In the midst of worrying about cash flow, assisting patients and looking for ways to improve your pharmacy, I encourage you to take time each week to reflect. While I am not saying go join a local yoga class and meditate (which is also helpful but not my point), simply spend as little as fifteen minutes a week to review what you have done within your business. List the strengths and the weakness, note down any opportunities and what hurdles you’ve had to overcome. There are some pretty useful systems allowing you to efficiently review and reflect on your business. KPI reporting is one strategy and the team here at Peak Strategies cannot preach enough about the importance of setting strong KPI’s. The trick however is you need to not only set KPI’s but take the time to reflect on the data.

I had a session with a business coach and he gave me some pretty valuable advice. You don’t always have to reinvent the wheel. Take the time to reflect on what you have been doing and what is WORKING. You never know you might find a solution to that annoying problem you’ve been trying to solve.

This weekend is the perfect time to spend some time to reflect on your business. If you give it a try, I promise you will not be disappointed.

“Looking back so that the view looking forward is even clearer”

In conclusion, I hope this little tip helps you. I am extremely excited to learn more about pharmacy as I continue this journey with Peak Strategies.
