Pharmacy | Are you Bold enough to Dream?

Pharmacy | Are you Bold enough to Dream?

I have spoken to many pharmacy owners, and one common thing that surprises me is not many can answer the question “Where are you going to be in 3 years time?”.

There are not many pharmacy businesses that have a well defined vision, goals and dreams. As you may have heard me say before, “aiming at nothing and hitting it with surprising accuracy”. Last week I came across an article on news.com.au about a radio host Kristie Mercer from KiisFM’s Thinkergirls. It involved her heading to her segment’s Facebook page to ask the question why it takes so long to get a script at the chemist. She did this by posting a video of herself inside a pharmacy and going on a rant about having to wait. She described it as a “big mystery” and “like the seventh wonder of the world.”

In my business life I talk to many business owners, from all walks of life with all sorts of different pharmacy operations. I was reflecting the other day on what characteristics there are in successful owners and businesses.

Now for those of you who are longer term pharmacy owners with partners will know there are good pharmacists who make bad business owners. The pharmacists who own pharmacy businesses and who probably shouldn’t. Yet there are also pharmacists who are born for it and excel in being in an ownership role.
